Charming areas in Malmö

Malmö has many charming areas worth exploring during a stroll in this fairly small city.

Gamla Väster, which means Old West, is one of the most charming and picturesque areas in Malmö. Here you will find cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, often only a couple of stories high. Gamla Väster has preserved much of the old-world charm and atmosphere, older road networks have been maintained and many older buildings have been preserved.

Möllevångstorget (the Möllevång Square) is another charming place. A little more than a hundred years ago this area consisted of rural fields with windmills. The district is located in central Malmö and was previously a factory area, which has undergone a transformation in the last decade. "Möllan" is known today for its many taverns and nightclubs and its wide range of culture.

Slottsträdgården is an open, ecological garden in the middle of Malmö. Here you can enjoy the changes of the seasons in a quiet and beautiful place with the windmill in the background.

Malmö's landmark

Turning Torso in Malmö harbor is a famous landmark and Sweden's tallest skyscraper with its 190 meters. Wherever you are in the city you will be able to see the building that represents a human body, or torso, making a turning motion. The West harbor is a new development area and there is a lot of new construction ongoing.

Famous restaurants in Malmö

Vollmer is a Michelin star restaurant whose philosophy is to use the best of the Scanian soil, meaning the produce from the local area. Here you can find exquisite dishes made from local ingredients that are prepared with modern cooking techniques, without complicating things more than necessary.

On a corner by Jesusparken is Lyran, by some considered to be one of the best restaurants in Malmö. Food is prepared with the best ingredients for the day. The restaurant is protective of its environment and therefore informs guests that it is not suitable for children. However, it is a great choice for a romantic, fine dining experience.

Bloom In The Park is a restaurant in Malmö that has also been rewarded with a Michelin star. The restaurant has a unique concept, “No Menu”, which means that the food is served according to availability, day and mood. Enjoy modern European cuisine in a luxurious and relaxed setting.

Restaurants with a view

Take the elevator up to the fourteenth floor of Studiohuset in Malmö and you will find Kasai in the Sky. Here you can enjoy Asian food as well as delicious cocktails in a rooftop bar with a panoramic view of Malmö and Öresund.

Aster has become a hotspot in the new district Varvsstaden with the classic Kockumsvarvet as a backdrop. The restaurant makes all its food with fire as its best friend. The varied menu has nice twists but always has a good piece of fish and meat as the main act. The outdoor seating area is shaped like a fan, where are you can bask in the sun and watch people while enjoying a meal in a beautiful and historic place in Malmö

Restaurants at the water

Ribersborg beach, or Ribban as it is often called, is Malmö's most visited beach and consists of a strip of beach that is over 1.5 kilometers long. The beach is within walking distance of the city.
Throughout the summer months, the beach is filled with both Malmö residents and visitors enjoying the sun and beach life. In the evenings, the beach changes its character and barbecues mingle with salsa parties.

If you are not into bringing your own food or having a barbecue on the beach, you can visit the restaurant Ribersborg. The proximity to the sea and the green surroundings make it an oasis, where you can enjoy a relaxing break before heading back to the city.
Restaurant Glasklart (which translates into Crystal Clear) has an impressive view of Malmö's harbor entrance. Here you can eat traditional Swedish food at a low cost, while having a great view through the huge glass windows.
