An ancient Roman theatre, renovated in the 1950s into an active venue for various shows. It's beautiful and architecturally impressive considering its built in 161 AD.

They only host shows during the Athens festival in the summer, so plan accordingly if you wanted to experience a show in the ancient theatre.

A magical place! To experience a show there is otherworldly. A place of enormous history has the power to enhance all experiences there. A visit is a must, choose a summer night so that the weather is pleasant as well.Book in advance as most of the shows are sold out

To watch a drama in the ancient Roman theater was always in my bucket list. This theater has a semicircular three-story structure and is said to be able to accommodate 6,000 people. It is the main venue for the "Athens Art Festival" every summer. We did my homework in advance and bought tickets. Tonight, a drama in Greek with English subtitles was performed. It lasted for an hour and a half, and I was very interested in it. The plot is adapted from Homer's epic and is set before Agamemnon's expedition to Troy. The characters and props are modern and full of drama. The famous phrase "live happily as an ordinary person or die as a hero" also appears in the play, and ends with Agamemnon's daughter sacrificing her life for victory of the war. The theater was almost full, which was a bit unexpected. To watch a show inside of the theater was a quiet life time experience.

A beautiful theatre, in impressively good condition! You can see it well from above when walking on the south slope of the Acropolis hill. To get inside, you have to book one of the events that often (especially during summer) get organised there. The experience is stunning, the theatre amazing and the events are usually of great quality. The stairs of the theatre are a bit steep and the marbles slippery, so be careful and wear good shoes (high heels are actually not allowed). Keep in mind that the theatre usually gets packed.

Magical place, i was there at the spectacular Septicflesh concert with orchestra and choir. Amazing acoustics, dim, dark mood that set the tone and really brings out the textures in the old theatres rocks. Recommend seeing it even if there are no events, just take it all in
