First time trying East African food and it did not disappoint. Convenient location with lots of (paid) street parking/it is directly in front of the QLINE. Service was friendly and quick. The food was fresh, high quality, flavourful and had a generous portion (especially the goat). Would recommend for anyone looking to get good quality African food in Detroit!

I had an excellent lunch with my friends here. This was the second time going to an African restaurant (my first was Ethiopian food). We started off with crispy plantain chips with a tangy and savory sauce. I had the kumuhana which included two large, lightly charred, delicious chicken thighs, four plantain slices, yellow beans, and corn salad. I recommend getting half rice pilau and half coconut rice to try both. The flavors of everything blended perfectly together! Would’ve gotten a dessert if they were a bit cheaper.

Very cute place, bright and clean. Lots of windows and natural light. Very friendly staff and DELICIOUS food. I had the Intore, eggplant stew and half and half of rice and sides to try them all.  Also got Sambusas filled with chicken.  Server brought me some of their house made hot sauce.  Generous portions,  had yummy leftovers.

Baobab Fare is a beautiful restaurant serving East African cuisine. Immediately upon entering, you feel embraced by its welcoming atmosphere. “More than a restaurant, Baobab Fare is a gathering place where all are welcomed and embraced” is printed in bold yellow letters on the wall behind the bar.

We started with the sambusas, fried savory pastries filled with marinated grilled chicken, served with dipping sauce. These were delicious, especially with the dipping sauce.

For my main dish, I had their signature dish, the Nyumbani. Tender beef, slow-simmered in ripened tomato sauce, served with fried plantains, peanut-stewed spinach, and your choice of spiced rice pilau or coconut rice. I loved the beef, the fried plantains, and the spiced rice pilau. I do wish the beef came with more sauce. Unfortunately I wasn’t a fan of the peanut-stewed spinach. It tasted like cigarettes to me. However, I had three friends that ordered the same dish and devoured everything, including the spinach, so it might be an acquired taste.

For dessert, I had the coco mango, which consisted of coconut cream with mango coulis and fresh mango chunks, topped with roasted coconut flakes. It was the perfect way to end the meal.

Also, the service was amazing!

Absolutely fantastic food with hearty portions, so bring your appetite. You can feel the love in the food and attention to detail. Make sure to ask for a side of the house made hot sauce! So good and complementary to the spices in the food. I will definitely be back!
