We had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the Crimean olives were good and the Poltava was a standout, with great creativity and an excellent blend of flavors. The broccoli salad was another highlight, fresh and well-seasoned.

The biggest disappointment, and the main reason for 3 stars was the borscht. While the flavor was okay, it lacked salt and it was very overpriced at $20. Charging that much for a dish known for its frugality is quite audacious. I can make 12 quarts at home for nearly the same price. For that price, they could at the very least include a slice of bread. But instead, they suggest ordering pampushky if you'd like to eat it with bread. We tried it, but the dinner roll-like bread didn’t pair well with the borscht; a hearty, dark bread like rye would have been a much better complement.

The trout roe, though decent, was unremarkable and didn’t add much to the experience.

Anelya is a solid entry from the much-lauded former owners of Parachute, but unfortunately not as impressive as their past venture. All of their food follows a trend of being technically well-executed, but underwhelming on flavor. The lokshyna and holubtski deliver a great layered al dente bite  and fluffy chew, respectively, but both are smothered in cream sauces that taste pretty flat. There’s a great cook on the pork belly shashlik, but it was begging for a sauce, and the trout roe tart was fully not notable (and as a result not worth its nontrivial price tag)

There were three exceptions - two highlights in the pampushky and broccoli salad, both of which are standouts, and a severe disappointment in the karpatka for dessert. Do yourself a favor and skip dessert - the choux pastry used in the karpatka was some of the worst I’ve ever seen

Drinks are good, with a fun selection of small house-made infusions, and service is very warm, if not the speediest

The appetizer cart is ingenious and tempts one to get everything on it. The trout roe tart and deviled eggs were interesting. The whitefish spread and chicken liver pate were ok but weird that it doesn't come with bread. The garlic bread we ended up ordering was fragrant and delicious though. The chicken mushrooms was unique. Think steamed buns covered in gravy. The mackerel was a bit bland given how simply it was prepared.

We celebrated our wedding in Anelya last Saturday. We and our guests were delighted with the service,food and presentation. Such a unique restaurant of modern Ukrainian cuisine.
It is a shame to read the hate comments of Ukrainians who compare it with Tryzub. Are you guys serious ? Unfortunately, Ukrainians have not learned to appreciate and respect things that may differ from their subjective opinion. If the borscht is different from the way you cook it, it doesn't mean it's bad.
I highly recommend this restaurant!

As a Ukrainian, this place was not up to my expectations. First of all, the appetizers and dishes overall are ridiculously small and not good enough for that price. It’s a joke to charge $7 for pickled cucumbers or tomatoes. We got three appetizers that would normally come with bread but we had to order a small portion of bread separately for another $7 which was barely enough for the appetizers we ordered.
The price would be fine for a premium product but the chicken pashtet was not even that good and did not have enough liver taste that you would normally expect from this dish.
As for Krovyanka (blood sausage), it was dry inside, and served with way too much oil that made the dish too heavy and I couldn’t finish it.
As for Banosh, it has to be more creamy, prepared with heavy cream, but it was instead lacking flavor and tasted like it was cooked with water. Bland.
A good Banosh is served with porcini but what we got was regular mushrooms. Again, not a great dish for such a high price.
My friend’s Mushroom Yushka was too salty and was lacking the intense mushroom flavor you would normally expect.
The service and atmosphere was great but the food was definitely not worth it.
That was a disappointment as I know how much better most of the dishes would taste in Ukraine.
For the fancy appearance they are trying to make the food is just not great enough and not even close to its authentic counterparts.
