Our favorite new restaurant in the Monterey region! We came for dinner to celebrate our anniversary and had a fantastic experience overall. The service was warm, very considerate, and felt personal, without hovering. All of the items on the menu looked appealing, and everything we ordered was made with fresh high-quality ingredients and expert preparation. The dining experience overall felt relaxed, easy, and very satisfying. Highly recommended! We look forward to returning many times. Thank you to everyone at Maligne for such a wonderful evening.

My new favorite restaurant in the Monterey Bay Area… Wow. This contemporary yet quaint well designed restaurant in Seaside hits all the marks. The service was super helpful, friendly, attentive. The ambiance was simple and clean. The food was hit after hit, no disappointments. They are a farm-to-table establishment so expect an ever changing menu with the seasons but man, the cooking is top notch. I highly recommend avoiding Monterey and Carmel and going to this spot, you won’t be disappointed.

We had reservations for 4, but still had to wait for a table awkwardly by the front door and clearly in the way of staff.
After getting to our table, we found our server to be attentive and helpful. They take the full order at once and bring food out as ready. Vegetarian options ate limited to sides.
The little gems caesar salad was really good. Also, the papas bravas were so good with a sauce that is smoky with a little heat.
Friend ordered tuna collar and just wow! We saw it hanging above the wood fire, That’s another thing, the kitchen is open and it is fun to watch. The tuna collar was delivered to the table and we were all amazed. It was full of smoky, tender tuna meat. The beets even tasted smoky. I was happy with my side of polenta and broccolini. The chicken parm portion was huge - easily splittable.
We enjoyed a lovingly prepared scallop with capers that so very tender and flavorful.
All in all, it was a lovely night with friends enjoying thoughtfully prepared food.
We all smelled like wood smoke from the kitchen as a reminder.

We drove up from San Diego to visit Monterey for a long-awaited road trip. I combed through dozens of restaurants in the area and landed on Maligne because of their menu, reviews, and reputation. Our experience fell nothing short of our expectations. The food was absolutely incredible, the service was delightful, and the ambience was casual yet elegant.

We started with the focaccia and hamachi crudo. The focaccia was perfectly seasoned with salt and herbs, had a deliciously toasted crust, and was paired with olive oil for dipping. The hamachi was delicate, served with fresh plums and refreshing shiso. For our entrées, we shared the lamb chops and gnocchi. The lamb basically slid off the bone, the cabbage was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was delicious. The ragu with the gnocchi was so warm and comforting, and it was truly the best gnocchi I’ve ever had, so pillowy and decadent. To end our meal, we had the banana pudding which was creamy and nostalgic.

Our server, Sergio, was attentive, kind, charming, and funny. He made our experience incredibly personal and memorable, and we certainly look forward to visiting again one day and seeing him, along with the chef at Maligne. I highly recommend dining here as this is an experience you will never forget.

I don’t know exactly what the hype is all about. While the appetizers were quite good, I found the mains to be dry and uninspired.

We had the beet salad, focaccia, and crudo to begin. The beet salad was the standout. Crudo was cut thick and missed an acidic element in my opinion.

For mains we had chicken parm and the branzino. Branzino was well cooked but very simple. The chicken parm was a little too dry for me. Both lacked flavor.
