This is a review of the overall meal a group of five hungry Māori had a Le Tse Fung.  I wanted to try michelin star food in geneva and thought that, Chinese chefs would treat the food with respect and care - as has most often been the case in my experience.  The prawn crackers, entrees/starters and the duck we had were very good.  The wine list was amazing and my colleagues said that the espresso martinis were also amazing.  I have very rarely had Chinese that was inedible - but that was the case with our mains.  The fish was drowned in a gluggy paste that killed any taste of the fish, the same was the case with the bok choy and the fried rice was dry and tasteless, the orange beef was dry, and the noodles were very average - we took the leftovers as we thought to give them to some of the housing challenged people on the way home and the meal was super expensive.

I would not return to Le Tse Fung for ANY OF THE MAINS - and would give a score of 0 for all the five main dishes we ordered.  It is a shame as the restaurant is pretty nicely positioned.  the quality of the outdoor dining furniture is a bit budget but inside it is lovely.

I am shocked that this place has maintained its star TBH and for the price and overall quality, it is an epic fail from me! We did speak to the staff who wanted to know why we didn't like the food but who also seemed disinterested in the feedback or providing any remedy.  Although I did get a packet of prawn crackers to take home ... Okay - across my life, I have had a range of pedestrian and high-quality Chinese.  I have eaten in Singapore (street, fancy and Michelin hawker food), Vietnam (the same) and my home in Christchurch, NZ.  Some of my favourite places are some of the most humble (mom-and-pop places, family-owned), and I love the range of Cantonese, Szechuan and other Asia regional food on offer here in NZ - support local and forget the star ratings!

The food was surprisingly good. I think we enjoyed everything except for one of the stir-fry that is too salty. Good Chinese food, probably the best in town I'd say. Peking duck was very nice and the portion  was very large for two people. We left very full. Service was also quite good but the dining pace is on the slower side. The atmosphere is top notch

I happen to have dinned multiple times at this restaurant over the years and that is mostly due to its ambience, service and preference of friends / associates.

The overall 2-star rating I am giving it here is outright linked to the high expectations that a Michelin star creates (that are not met here, at least from a food perspective), and the need for such restaurants to start offering some value for their patrons.

It is about time that patrons are respected and not charged casually CHF 250 per person for small / average servings charged at gastronomic prices, and Peking ducks that seem to have been on…a strict diet before being served.

The wine list is lengthy, offering a fair selection (at inflated multiples that is), the staff is professional and attentive and the ambience is beautiful as is the rest of the hotel.

Judging from the fact that every time I have visited the restaurant, it is full or nearly full, it may indicate that my view is a minority one (or that many others simply are less vocal about it, as I have attested in various occasions).

As someone fortunate enough to have dined in many fine restaurants across the globe, I approached Le Tse Fung with high expectations, especially given its Michelin-starred status. However, my visit left me questioning the criteria behind that accolade.

First, let me commend the service. The staff were attentive, professional, and eager to please. From the moment we entered, their warmth and precision set a positive tone for the meal.This level of hospitality is, unfortunately, where the meal’s excellence began and ended.

The cuisine, while visually appealing, fell drastically short of what one might expect from a Michelin-starred establishment. It felt as though the dishes had been designed to cater to the most generic palate, lacking any of the boldness or complexity that defines authentic Chinese cuisine.

Traditional Chinese cooking is renowned for its nuanced balance of salty, sweet, sour, and spicy flavors. Yet here, everything tasted muted. Spices were conspicuously absent, replaced by cloying sauces that seemed more suited to a takeaway sweet-and-sour dish than an elevated dining experience. Each bite felt like a predictable repetition of the last—pleasant enough, but utterly uninspired.

One of the joys of Chinese cuisine is its interplay of textures—crisp, tender, chewy, and silky, often harmonized within a single dish. At Le Tse Fung, this essential aspect was overlooked. Dishes leaned heavily on soft, overly-sauced components, leaving the palate yearning for contrast or crunch.

While the restaurant excelled in ambiance and service, it failed to deliver the culinary innovation and authenticity its reputation promised. Michelin stars should represent a pinnacle of excellence, but here, it felt more like a polished facade hiding a lackluster core.

5 kms from Geneva, in La Réserve hotel & Spa. This restaurant is a gem of Chinese place, you will forget the best duck you ever tried if you eat one here. Even the other Chinese dishes were top ones. But duck here beats almost everyone i tried so far and i have tried in top restaurants in Europe.  Service was amazing and restaurant has beautiful indoor and outdoor seating. My second favourite was chilli prawns and crab soup. Don’t miss this meal from heaven. Don’t remember me and have fun
