For seafood lovers, Chef Juan's beautifully crafted tasting menu is a must try in Cadiz. The intimate setting, fantastic service, and wine accompaniments made this a meal to remember, and perhaps the best seafood meal of my life. His traditional recipes made for a nostalgic experience for those from Cadiz, while providing visitors with a taste of the local gastronomic culture.

Food was not good. I’ve never had saltier food in my life. We couldn’t even finish a few dishes and they were only 1-2 bites. We got the local wine pairings. I love wine and we couldn’t drink them.

While it may not be the absolute worst food I’ve had, it was expensive, so the taste to expense ratio was probably the worst in my life.

Amazing meal, food and wine pairing very well considered. Local food and wines. Limited tables each night so book! Would recommend.

Nada más entrar descubrimos que Mare es un lugar acogedor y donde pasar una buena experiencia. Su menú degustación de 85€ combina lo tradicional de la pesca gaditana con una cocina de alta gama, con buenos sabores y exquisita presentación. El chef te atiende desde el principio, lo cual da un toque de acercamiento al cliente muy sobresaliente. La sensación fue cambiando a peor con diferentes detalles:
- La limpieza del sitio no era para nada propia de un restaurante de semejantes precios; suelo sucio, delantal del chef con manchas, baño mejorable.
- El vino tinto, por copa, acorde a la calidad de la comida, pero creo que ha sido el sitio donde nos han servido menos cantidad; un dedo de licor por 5€ me parece bastante exagerado
- Uno de los 13 pases del menú era pescado en adobo. Al abrir el trozo de la fritura descubro que la pieza desprende un fuerte olor a amoníaco. Dicen que en multitud de sitios, cuando el pescado se pone malo, lo enmascaran con adobo para servirlo a los comensales, sobre todo en lugares como Sevilla al que llega un pescado de peor calidad. Me extraña mucho ver dichos comportamientos en una ciudad costera, y más siendo de provincia. El detalle a recalcar no es ese, porque un error lo tiene cualquiera, sino que intenten volver a freir la misma pieza, y encima no tener ningún detalle de compensación económica, como abaratar el menú o regalar aunque sea las bebidas. En definitiva, el plato no lo comí, pedí que se eliminara de los pases.
En definitiva, como catador que ha probado más de 50 menús degustación por toda España, decir que es un sitio en el que pagas perfectamente 100€ por persona, precio nada bajo y que es de la talla de estrellas michelín y que, con detalles como los citados, suena a que intentan sacar aun más dinero a los clientes, con detalles poco ortodoxos y que pierden la calidad que se busca en un restaurante presente en la guía Michelín. Nada recomendable.

As soon as we entered we discovered that Mare is a cozy place where we can have a good experience. Its €85 tasting menu combines traditional Cádiz fishing with high-end cuisine, with good flavors and exquisite presentation. The chef serves you from the beginning, which gives a very outstanding touch of customer contact. The feeling changed for the worse with different details:
- The cleanliness of the place was not at all typical of a restaurant of such prices; Dirty floor, chef's apron with stains, bathroom that could be improved.
- The red wine, by the glass, according to the quality of the food, but I think it was the place where we were served the least amount; a finger of liquor for €5 seems quite exaggerated to me
- One of the 13 dishes on the menu was fish in adobo. When I open the piece of fried food I discover that the piece gives off a strong smell of ammonia. They say that in many places, when the fish goes bad, they mask it with marinade to serve it to diners, especially in places like Seville where poorer quality fish arrives. I am very surprised to see such behaviors in a coastal city, and even more so being from the province. The detail to emphasize is not that, because everyone makes a mistake, but that they try to fry the same piece again, and on top of that not having any detail of financial compensation, such as making the menu cheaper or giving away even the drinks. In short, I did not eat the dish, I asked for it to be removed from the passes.
In short, as a taster who has tried more than 50 tasting menus throughout Spain, I can say that it is a place where you pay perfectly €100 per person, a price that is not low at all and that it is of the caliber of Michelin stars and that, with details such as Those mentioned, it sounds like they are trying to get even more money from customers, with unorthodox details and that lose the quality that is sought in a restaurant included in the Michelin guide. Not recommended.
