I was on a business trip in Milan and spontaneously had time and the desire to treat myself to a culinary meal in the evening.

I spontaneously found the small but fine "Matar Bistrot" which has a very nice urban ambience inside. What I really appreciate is the open kitchen! Here you can watch people working and nothing is kept secret!
I was warmly welcomed and looked at the menu. There is a 4-5 course recommendation from the chef which appealed to me directly! The surprise menu that was then delivered to me was worth at least one Michelin star in my opinion!

The wine accompaniment is an exciting change from what is offered in other restaurants! I was clearly positively surprised!

The menu was accompanied by an abundance of small greetings from the kitchen that accompanied the culinary experience.

What I find very great here is that you can feel the spirit of Italian cuisine! Using just a few things, with a very high quality, to cook great products that stay in your soul and in your memory! Even a little twist on Asian cuisine and combining it with classics is skilfully delivered here.
I really like the courage to try something new and to keep on doing the same old thing over and over again!

For every curious palate that wants to embark on a journey, I would recommend this place!

When I'm back in Milan, I'll be back for sure! Thank you for this great food!

Mater Bistrot is a very cool concept. Open kitchen with a very intimate seating arrangement. The drinks were great and the wine selection was very inviting and had lots of local choices. Only down side to this Restaurant is that they are trying to hard to be fancy. Some of the dishes were overcomplicated and things were added that were not needed. If they focused more on the one main ingredient it would be a much better dining experience.

Food was good, but it wasn’t anything special. The wine pairings did not fit that well with the food.

Our experience was awfull!

4 course tasting menu

1.Sour something, JUST sour
2. Undercooked pasta
3. Average little steak
4. ONLY Sweet dessert

In 1 Hour 40minutes, nobody came to refill our wine glasses.
Not recommend at all! Just waste of money and time.

Great little restaurant with no more than 20 seats, where the kitchen occupies a third of the floor and everything happens in the same room. The four of us sampled a fair share of the menu and found it extremely well executed, smartly thought out and at times interestingly daring. We thought the fish ball, the ceviche, the risotto and the diaphragm were particularly successful. The lemon dessert was also great. Only small minus was the relatively limited wine list where we opted for the most expensive red (69€) that ended up not convincing us entirely. That included, with about 3 courses each the final bill was 55€/p which is a fair price for this type of quality.
