I rarely share negative reviews of places, but:

- The speed bump at the entrance is simply criminal - any low car above 5kph an hour will get some damages
- The staff was truly unhelpful with restaurant bookings. During the holidays on a Sunday when nothing else really is available, the restaurant didn't set any tables asides for hotel guests, nor phoned us, nor sent a follow up email. Their weren''t in capacity to welcome hotel guests while there were still 3 tables available across both services. All wouldn't be such an issue if the staff's reaction wasn't on the tone of "Sounds like a you problem"...

Other side notes, true bugs in the rooms, but that happens in the country side.

On the surface a nice hotel at a beautiful location. However, that’s really only on the surface, which is mainly let down by its incredibly overpriced and mediocre restaurant.

The restaurant is honestly unacceptably expensive for what it offers, but I wouldn’t recommend it if it was even half the price. It simply wasn’t good enough.

Breakfast was equally overpriced and of the same low quality, with the saltiest scrambled eggs you can imagine.

It wasn’t just the restaurant that was disappointing. The deluxe room was nice enough. But the room was too warm at night, even in October and the “view” shown in the pictures on their website was non-existent (see picture). This should’ve been indicated in the room description.

Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel, or restaurant.

October 2024. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chateau Hotel & Spa Grand Barrail. The room and campus grounds are nice and gave us a romantic vibe. Staff is very kind and paid attention to detail. They reached out to help us plan our dinner, tours and room extras like flowers. Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were great and more than worth the price. We highly recommend it for people looking to relax and enjoy St Emilion (10 minute taxi ride). Looking forward to returning!

The hotel is beautiful and well maintained inside.
We had a duplex family suite which was very good and perfect for the 4 of us.
The service and atmosphere though really let the hotel down. It is a five star hotel and priced appropriately but the staff in the restaurant/bar and pool (when there) needed prompting to offer drinks and you felt like it was an inconvience. I expected (like many other hotel stays we have had as a family) to feel special but none of us did - there was no conversation or engagement with us or our children at any point (other than one lady on reception on check in) It has the potential to be a great hotel, it just needs to relax a little and focus on the customer, not just the appearance.

While the property looks great, we would not stay here again and would not recommend it. We tried to get a table for dinner, however we were told it was already booked. We sat outside, but couldn’t order anything beyond a glass of wine. I believe if you’re spending $500 a night, you should be able to get a table at the place you’re staying in. Clearly they don’t value overnight guests. They should reserve some tables for overnight guests.
