We recently stayed at Château de Pray in the Loire Valley, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The château itself is steeped in history, dating back to the 13th century, which adds a lot of charm and character to the stay. The ambience is exactly what you’d hope for when staying in a historic château—elegant, peaceful, and full of charm.

Our room was lovely and immaculately clean, with a cozy, old-world feel that made us feel like we were stepping back in time. The service was excellent across the board, especially the lady at the front desk, who went out of her way to offer great recommendations for restaurants and nearby châteaux to visit. Her local insights really added to our trip.

The garden in the back is a beautiful space to unwind. We loved relaxing there with a drink after a day of exploring. It’s a peaceful retreat with gorgeous views.

We would absolutely love to return to Château de Pray in the future and highly recommend it for anyone looking for a peaceful and authentic Loire Valley experience.

What a disapointment and nothing like the photos. On entering the chateau what immediately hits you is the dreadful smell and then the awful decor. There is a dingy and a very unchic reception area with artificial flowers and scattered bibs and bobs. We are directed to our room on the second floor which is awful. I booked a garden view. We are shown another room which is better and has windows that overlook the front gardens. We do not eat at the chateau due to the smell in the dining room ..I don't think anyone else does either and we find a marvellous petisserie in Amboise that we have breakfast at every day for 4 days ( L'horloge)
The decor is dreadful, very unchic and mismatched. The carpets are grey and threadbare and there is nothing luxurious about this place even though the photos tell a different story.
We paid a large sum of money to stay here. I do not understand why precedence is given to the diners booking at their Michelin star restaurant for the night while we have to park on the grounds outside the chateau.
I do not recommend this place.

A nice castle, with a pleasant interior and very good service.
The pool and its surroundings are not very big, but they are well maintained. If you can't find a place to sunbathe by the pool, there are also sunbeds in the garden next to it. There was also a bar in the pool area in the afternoon, and you could also order a massage there.
The breakfast also met the Northern European standard, but for complete satisfaction, the salty selection could have been a little bigger.
Amboise city centre with its many attractions is a 10-minute drive away.
There are several castles in the immediate vicinity that are worth visiting.
The castle has its own restaurant, but it is not open every day.
The mobile internet was weak there, it still worked outside, but the signal remained very weak in the room with thick walls. The hotel's Wi-Fi was also very poor in our room, so I had to cancel the planned work over the Internet.
Compared to several other castles we stayed at on this long trip to the Loire Valley, this one had the most professional service, but the smallest rooms.

In this place you feel like time is running slowly, you just move on to the past century. Beautiful garden, perfect interior, friendly personal, nothing does not disturb the harmony of history and modernity

(In 2019) I was soooo looking forward to staying here, based on Rick Steves recommendation. The rooms were beautiful and quiet. The service is less than desirable. One day I left for an all-day chateau tour - it started in Ambroise. It was easy enough to get there, but coming back, taxis were scarce and I called the hotel and asked if they could call a taxi for me to pick me up in the main square in front of Restaurant Anne de Bretagne (you can't miss this place), instead of helping me out they said - go find the tourist office, they will help you. Really? (the day before I had a taxi pick me up from the train station, via Chateau du Pray - so I knew they did this!!) I had to find the office, then have them call for me? Less than Helpful. This place is really not the place to stay - the staff like to argue with you. (It happened when I asked for an extra towel, it happened while I was trying to make dinner reservations....) Never again.
