A few nights ago, my mother, brother, and I had the extraordinary pleasure of dining at Zijavica, where we indulged in their 9-course experience aptly named COURAGE (Hrabrost in Croatian). From the moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped in an environment that was both humble and sophisticated, setting the stage for what would become a memorable experience and evening.

The COURAGE menu was a masterful showcase of local and seasonal ingredients, each dish thoughtfully crafted to highlight the rich culinary heritage of the region. It was clear that the team at Zijavica took great pride in sourcing their ingredients, which added a layer of authenticity to every bite.

We were continually surprised and delighted by the creativity and precision in every dish. The meticulous attention to detail, from the presentation to the flavor profiles, demonstrated the chef's deep respect for the ingredients and the culinary art form.

One of the aspects we particularly appreciated was the pace of the service. It invited a slowed-down, succulent experience, beckoning us to savor every last bite and drop. The timing of each course was impeccable, allowing us to fully appreciate the complexity and nuances of each dish without feeling rushed.

Additionally, the intimacy of the space at Zijavica added a special touch to our dining experience. The cozy setting created a warm and inviting atmosphere, making us feel like cherished guests in someone’s home.

A special shout-out goes to Dino, who served us with grace and enthusiasm. Dino’s passion for his work was evident, and his service was exemplary, enhancing the overall enjoyment of our experience.

It was an evening filled with good laughs, multi-dimensional dishes, discovery, and gastronomic excellence. I highly recommend Zijavica to anyone seeking a dining experience that is as enriching as it is delicious. Thank you, Zijavica, for an evening we will cherish forever.

Amazing experience, I tried the 7-course tasting menu. Everything was delicious. There is great attention to details. The ingredients are paired with care and each dish has its own story. The interior is very pleasant and the personnel are professional and friendly. I will gladly come back.

We told the waiter, if the chef doesn't ask us what we'll eat - we don't wanna know what we're drinking either. So he poured the wines and did an amazing job. He really did and should be praised for it.

Now. The food:

Just go to this place and order the signature 9 course menu. Its what you need to do when visiting this place. "But i want to know what" No you don't. "But I want to know how my food will…" No, you don't.

They spent countless hours testing the food. And you don't need to know or do anything. Just trust them. You're the guest.

The way Vunic spins Kvarner seafood is just out of this world. Because what he does is both amazing and very clever. The takes the signature materials from Adriatic seafood (škampi, fillets of fish, calamari, squid etc) and paires them with extraordinary companions on the plate in the form of sauces, concentrates, and sides from ordinary ingredients.

Zijavica is by far the best (and best buy) seafood restaurant in Croatia, and its not even close. By any metric

The chef is the heart of the restaurant and the food is the star. His combinations, his plates, the care which goes in each plate, and the eatingware in which the food comes in. It really is a joke that this place doesn't have a michelin star yet. Probably because he doesn't slap golden caviar on everything or do the usual fanfare with expensive ingredients and internationally accepted luxury staples. He does something far more impressive.

The staff is professional, knowledgeable yet relaxed, a killer combo.

After we ate and drank everything we just sat in silence drinking coffee and wondering what on earth had just happened.

Please don't miss this place. A gem.
