A real gem in Ghent, one of the best restaurants I’ve tried so far! Lovely service and eye for detail. Lara & Thomas really know how to create an amazing culinary experience.

Indulging in an exquisite fine dining experience in Ghent and its neighboring areas is a delightful affair, and this particular venue is no exception. While it may not be budget-friendly, true food aficionados are urged to set aside funds to savor the tasting menu, should the opportunity arise. The highlight of our culinary escapade was, without a doubt, the signature dish, which added a perfect finishing touch to our overall experience. Our hosts for the evening, chef Thomas and sommelier Lara, were exceptionally welcoming and attentive, ensuring our satisfaction with every aspect of the meal. We extend our gratitude and eagerly anticipate our next visit.

We visited a year or two ago as well. Upon arrival I noticed this previous review I wrote didn’t upload correctly. Now, I re read that review and I stand by it. I just want to add: it is even better now, which is hard to believe - I know. I also added more photos from this time. Confusing, I know.

Commotie: what an epic place. Just the setting alone is beyond beautiful. A renovated stand-alone house with an entrance to the right, lighted by a row of candles, leads you through a cute hallway into what I expect used to be a living room.
Outside fires are lit to softly light a gorgeous garden, which, looking at the photos online, looks great in summer!
The place serves about 32 people at a time, who are meant to arrive at the same moment so the kitchen is able to get things going in orderly fashion.
Every seat has a spectacular view of the kitchen, which doubles as bar. If there’s only two of you; a table at the ‘bar’ is what you want.
Service is fluid and knowledgeable, the dishes are introduced by the chef himself, as he’s only ever 6 meters away from you at most.
Now, the food: Amazing. Bold flavours and astounding presentations, lush colours and minute details. I’m not a chef so I can’t attest to the skill, only the flavour. Nevertheless I can only guess what kind of expertise must have gone into this.
All in all: worth any drive there! Lastly: go for the paired wines. The Natural wine selection is extensive and of a high quality, as are the spirits and beers!

I forgot to write this review a few months back, but this is one of the real experiences in Ghent. Exciting food, extremely good wine pairings and impeccable service. Would definitely recommend and will be back for sure. Only downside is that it is difficult to get a table as it's always fully booked 🙃

Very well put together menu. Some incredible and unique flavors. All in a very cosy setting with some of the friendliest servers. If you enjoy fine dining then this will definitely be up your alley.
