Glad to have an opportunity to try out Saneh Jaan, a Michelin Star award restaurant. The Thai food are what we familiar with but added some twists or dressed up and presented in nice setting. There are not much of the WOW effect from most dishes but the food is delicious and overall it was an enjoyable dinning experience and it wasn't outrageously too expensive. I think it is a nice place to have a good meal, a good time and a wonderful experience.

Disclaimer: I only tried their set dinner menu. This is a review of just that experience, and the food served as a part of that menu.

It was underwhelming, to say the least. The best dish was the crab meat and sago soup, and the palm jelly dessert. Others were kind of unremarkable, and some, like the grilled mackarel, I did not enjoy at all because of the tough texture of the meat (I do not know how fish meat can be tough, but I understand some curing preparation has this effect). Also most of the food was room temp, even the grilled mackarel. Even the soup was just warm-ish, not hot.

The drinks were very good though, had the Tim Collins and Thaigito. Also they bought us a cute plate of small bite sized desserts as a surprise, since we were celebrating an occasion (we didn't even mention that! They just observed and understood!).

Overall, I don't think this was the best restaurant experience I've had in Bangkok, though I was really, really hoping it would be. Since this is a Michelin experience and costs a pretty penny, maybe the set dinner menu can be made more exciting.

Total failure. Absolute disappointment. Biggest regret of our entire trip to Thailand.

My girlfriend and I booked this restaurant for dinner, hoping to get a true Michelin star experience. We previously went to another Michelin star restaurant in Vietnam, Tam Vi, and it was very underwhelming, to say the least. This one was supposed to redeem our opinion of Michelin star restaurants jn Southeast Asia and, sadly, it didn’t.

We ordered hot and cold shrimp paste with mackerel, crispy catfish, Massaman Curry with beef plus a set of four traditional desserts and a glass of wine each.

Out of these, we can say only the curry was very good with very tender beef and sweet, flavorful curry. It wasn’t the best thing we tried in this region but it was very very good.

The catfish was okay although it was entirely different from what we expected - the fish was chopped so small that it felt like eating spiced panko with green beans rather than fish. And granted, it was seasoned well but not the unique catfish flavor we expected.

The mackerel was total trash. It was the driest fish either of us had in a very long time. The shrimp sauce it was served with didn’t help much; it was sour and mostly forgettable. The veggies that came on the side were definitely the worst part of the whole meal. Steamed, with no seasoning, no salt and pepper, no flavor, nothing. And tough on top of that. Total disaster.

The dessert was good but nothing you couldn’t get from a street food vendor.

This dinner really makes you wonder who gives these awards and on what criteria… Nothing about this restaurant seems award-worthy. The service was acceptable, at best. All the servers are very nice and kind but also clueless. The dining room was mostly empty which, I believe, made the staff antsy and impatient. They tried to take away our curry three times even though we were still working on it. They gave us all silverware at random times; the dessert didn’t have enough spoons to serve it without inadvertently mixing the flavors. It also didn’t feel very private. When we were picking our orders, the server literally stood over us, adding unneeded urgency.

Maybe we were unlucky with our food choice. Maybe. But when you go to a restaurant that’s supposed to be top-notch and has a high (relative to the city’s standards) price point, you expect the experience to be at least very good and this one wasn’t. It was by far the most expensive meal of our trip (over $100 USD). Our other fine dining experiences in Bangkok (omakase at Sushi Koge or dinner at Saffron Sky) were so much more worth it.

Some of the best food I've had.

My favorite dish so far was the five spices soup with korubata pork. There is not a ton of liquid, so although technically a soup, it is not deep. The flavor of the spices is delicious. There's a cinnamon flavor in there.

The pad Thai with prawn seemed well done but probably pad thai is too sweet for me in a lot of cases.

The set menu was great. I had the fried rice and pork belly which was good. Not sure if I'd get it again or order a la carte.

The thai omelet with pork cracklings is very tasty. The pork cracklings make it taste fantastic. It's unique and I'm glad I ordered it, but might not get it again due to it being this huge omelet without a ton of spices or anything like that.

The massaman curry with beef was fantastic (pictured). I wasn't crazy about the fish cakes in wraps (pictured). Also wasn't super crazy about the mon curry (pictured).

The tom yum soup (pictured, the orange soup) was spicy and had a lot of fresh herbs in it. It was great.

The mango sticky rice was delicious, as mango sticky rice always is. It was a special and is not always available.

I am no Michelin-connoisseur, but for me this was an absolutely amazing experience. The food is true to its Thai-heritage but is nevertheless surprising and innovative. My tastebuds were so excited as well as my eyes. Definitely recommend this for everyone who loves Thai food, and wants to try the highest excellence it has to offer.
