A hidden or not as well known attraction which is brilliant.
This is our second time and this is such a nice place to climb the stairs and see different views and levels.
The temples and Buddhas are great and I love the cave temple at the end personally.
It has so much going on around the mount too so has a buzzing atmosphere.

It is hardly likely a religious place but rather temple for tourism or tourist. Anyway, it is good place to feel the atmosphere of Buddism in Thai, also nice place to enjoy city view. Stairs are not difficult to climb. Total climbing time might be 5 minutes or so and the stairs itself are very low. Admit fee is 100 baht per 1 tourist, which is different from google maps.

It’s a nice climb to the top, with more statues, water features and bells along the way. They sell water upstairs and have giant fans you can sit in front of if you’re feeling too warm. The view from the top is awesome!

They’re not too strict with the dress code, so shorts are okay (for guys at least) as long as they’re not too short. They sell the ever ubiquitous elephant print trousers there in case your clothes are deemed not appropriate.

It’s a bit of a walk from the nearest metro station.

Wat Saket, commonly known as the Golden Mount, is a revered temple and iconic landmark in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon District. History of Wat Saket

The origins of Wat Saket date back to the Ayutthaya period, but it gained prominence during the reign of King Rama I, who restored and renamed it. The temple was originally called “Wat Sakae” but was later renamed “Wat Saket” by King Rama I.

The Golden Mount was built during King Rama III’s reign when he ordered the construction of a large chedi. However, the soft soil in Bangkok caused the original structure to collapse. Later, during King Rama IV’s reign, the hill was reinforced, and King Rama V completed the construction of the golden chedi that remains today.

Inside the chedi lies a relic of the Buddha, brought from India, making it a sacred pilgrimage site for Thai Buddhists. The Golden Mount also served as a cremation site for plague victims in the 19th century, adding to its historical significance.
