Had a very memorable dinner with my wife and 2 adult daughters on a Friday night, which is a different experience than other nights. We preordered the duck ramen and duck musubi (onigiri or rice ball) which are only available on Fridays along with a somewhat limited a la carte selection. We ordered virtually everything on the menu except the duck shabu shabu. Every dish was outstanding and we enjoyed many orders of 3 local sakes. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife team. He’s the chef and she serves the guests in a professional, polite, informative and friendly manner. She lived in Hawaii for many years so is totally fluent in English. Both my wife and I were raised in Tokyo and are half-Japanese. We visit Japan frequently and have a reputation as “foodies” so are often asked for restaurant recommendations in New York City and Japan. Kano Ryori Tabuchi will certainly be added to the top of our list of must-go-to restaurants in Kyoto. They have been recognized by the Michelin Guide, but have not yet been awarded a star. Highly recommend.

Simply splendid dining experience. The fact that this husband and wife run restaurant is not packed to the brim is simply astounding. From sitting down upon arrival until we walked out the door, he service was top notch (attentive, informative, sincere and a level of friendliness that is so often missed). The concept of a duck omakase is so foreign as an American and yet each course just worked so well. This duo is so close to Michelin stardom and I urge anyone who is looking for a unique and delicious meal in Kyoto to make your way here.

One of the best meals I've ever had. We had the omakase set menu, and it was just mind-blowing how good it was. It's owned by a couple, a husband and wife, with the husband taking charge of the cooking and the wife hosting and serving. She has excellent English and talks you through all the courses expertly. Do not be put off by the idea of eating raw duck, the raw courses were probably our favourite dishes of the night (but they were all fantastic!). Would recommend to anyone to eat there that's not vegan/veggie.
