I will always root for the Mom & Pop shops that uphold decades of tradition: in this case, handmade pastries beloved by generations of customers who will keep Ki Tsui in business for as long as the bakers will keep baking these delicacies.

Of course I had to try the red bean filled wife cake and it did not disappoint. Chewy yet soft rice flour dough on the outside and sweet bean paste on the inside. I also got the crispy bowtie fried biscuits which taste just as fresh and delicious today as the first day I bought them which was two or three days ago. Same with the giant almond cookie whose flavor and texture benefit from a heavy dose of lard.

Lastly let’s acknowledge the beautiful design of their logo: simple yet gorgeous and so evocative of a bygone era. I hope Ki Tsui stays in business for many decades to come.

Okay, but it would have been better if we could try more items—many have minimum purchase requirements, like at least one pound to buy (if I’m not mistaken), we tot that we couldn’t finish so.

I grew up coming here for their glutinous red bean pancake (紅豆燒餅). It is priced at 5 for HK$25 and the quality has remained consistent since many many years ago. Highly recommend!

I was there in the morning, and there were three women working. Although they were kind of rushed when asking for my order, their efficiency ensured that customers were served quickly. One of my absolute favorites is their red bean 烧餅, which has a perfect blend of sweetness and texture that reminds me of the snacks I enjoyed growing up. Not only do they look the same, but the taste remains just as it was in my childhood. The shop itself also looks the same, retaining its charming and familiar atmosphere. Another must-try is their banana 糕, a soft and flavorful cake that captures the essence of classic Chinese desserts. Additionally, I also bought 老婆餅 and 合桃酥, which were still warm and tasted incredibly good. The authenticity and quality of their offerings make every visit a trip down memory lane, allowing me to savor the comforting flavors of my past while enjoying the timeless appeal of traditional Chinese bakery delights.

It’s interesting to try (Michelin Star!), but I’m not a fan of traditional Chinese pastries.
